Metal-free carbon nitride catalyst for toluene oxidation

Abstract

Carbon nitride, as a metal-free catalyst, is demonstrated to effectively catalyze toluene oxidation. The localized electrons surrounding nitrogen vacancies in CN are transferred to O2, facilitating its adsorption and dissociation, thereby activating O2, which in turn accelerates toluene oxidation.
