Solvent free synthesis of organoselenides under green conditions

Abstract

The organoselenides have received much interest due to their application in medicinal chemistry, biology, materials science and organic synthesis. We have presented here a comprehensive and updated review on recent developments in the synthesis of organoselenium compounds under solvent free conditions by using conventional as well as modern techniques such as ball milling, visible light irradiation and microwave irradiation. The reactions in the absence of solvent under heating conditions and at room temperature/below room temperature have been discussed. The green aspects of these procedures have been highlighted. The significant advantages of solvent free reactions often include enhanced rate of reaction, improved selectivity, low energy consumption, reduced chemical waste and higher yield of products.
