Recent advances in the synthesis of organic chloramines and their insights into health care

Abstract

Nitrogen–chlorine compounds and their derivatives are regarded as important heterocyclic motifs, exhibiting a wide range of synthetic and pharmaceutical applications, such as N-chlorinating agents, analytical reagents, disinfectants, antipathogens, and intermediates in the preparation of drugs, polymers, and natural products synthesis. This would be due to the lytic nature of N–Cl compounds in destroying pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi, thereby creating a pivotal role in hospital infection control and management. The combination of nitrogen–chlorine is one of the most common motifs in the form of the antipathogenic agent in the healthcare field. Thus, the development of these compounds in terms of synthesis and health care is given prime importance in the current scenario. In this regard, covering this detailed synthesis and its utility in health care, none have been reported yet. The present review deals mainly with developments on the synthesis of N–Cl compounds and their utility in the construction of the same, as well as in health care, which could be of immense interest to both academia and industry.
