Selective C(sp3)–H activation of simple alkanes: visible light-induced metal-free synthesis of phenanthridines with H2O2 as a sustainable oxidant

Abstract

The visible light-induced metal-free C(sp3)–H phenanthridinylation of simple alkanes with isonitrile is developed with H2O2 as a terminal green oxidant. This reaction features good yields and selectivities, mild conditions, and a broad substrate scope with gaseous alkanes involved, allowing practical access to valuable alkyl-substituted phenanthridine derivatives.
