Controllable synthesis of CoFe2O4 electrospun nanofibers

Abstract

CoFe2O4 (CFO) nanofibers (NFs) with tunable diameter and length are successfully synthesized via an electrospinning process. Each individual CFO NF was assembled with a large amount of small nanoparticles stacked one by one along the axis direction after high temperature heat treatment. The surface morphology and diameter of the NFs can be easily adjusted by controlling the solution concentration, content of PVP additives, electro-spinning voltage and post-annealing temperature. The grain size of CFO NFs is increased with increasing annealing temperature, and the magnetic properties of which also exhibit annealing temperature and grain size dependence. The controllable synthesis strategy for one-dimensional CFO NFs lays an alternative foundation for the application of CFO in nanoelectromagnetic and spintronic devices.
