Radical umpolung chemistry enabled by dual catalysis: concept and recent advances

Abstract

Radical chemistry has flourished as a powerful synthetic tool in organic chemistry, drug discovery and materials science. Recently, the dual catalysis strategy has become a popular method in synthetic chemistry to overcome the high energy barrier steps in numerous traditional chemical transformations. In this Perspective, we introduce the concept of radical umpolung chemistry, briefly summarize the recent examples of this emerging area enabled by dual catalysis and guide the future directions.
