Complexes of 1,2-dimethylimidazole with divalent cobalt, nickel, copper, and zinc

Abstract

The preparation is described of the compounds ML4X2(L = 1,2-dimethylimidazole; M = Co, X = I or NO3; M = Ni, X = Cl, Br, I, or NO3; M = Cu, X = Br or NO3), ML2X2(M = Co, Ni, or Zn, X = Cl, Br, I, or NO3; M = Cu, X = Cl or NO3), CuL3Cl2 and ZnL4(NO3)2,H2O. Vibrational, electronic, and e.s.r. spectra and magnetic measurements are reported for these and structural information is deduced. The halogeno-complexes ML2X2 have pseudotetrahedral structures and CoL4X2 and ZnL4(NO3)2,H2O are probably tetrahedral. The compounds NiL4X2(X = Cl, Br, or I) are square and CuL3X2 is five-co-ordinate.
