Electrodeposition of Cu on NiCo2O4 nanoarrays for efficient electrochemical nitrate reduction to ammonia

Abstract

For electrochemical nitrate reduction to ammonia, non-noble metal-based catalysts with excellent performance are highly desirable. Herein, a Cu–NiCo2O4 electrocatalyst was constructed by facile electrodeposition of Cu on NiCo2O4. When performed in alkaline solution, Cu–NiCo2O4 achieved a high NH3 yield of 3.56 mmol h−1 cm−2 and NH3 faradaic efficiency of 95.2% at −0.2 V vs. RHE.
