Cycloaddition of aromatic imines to a ruthenium butatrienylidene complex: synthesis of 4-ethynylquinoline and 1-azabuta-1,3-diene complexes

Abstract

Reactions of aromatic imines with the putative butatrienylidene–ruthenium cation [Ru(C[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]CH 2 )(PPh 3 ) 2 - (η-C 5 H 5 )] + gives complexes containing either 4-ethynylquinoline or 1-azabuta-1,3-diene ligands; the molecular structures of [Ru(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CC 9 H 4 MeN)(PPh 3 ) 2 (η-C 5 H 5 )] and [Ru{C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CC(CH[double bond, length as m-dash]CHPh)[double bond, length as m-dash]N(C 6 H 4 N O 2 -3)}(PPh 3 ) 2 (η-C 5 H 5 )] are reported.
