Adsorbed phase composition in liquid-phase adsorption of organic compounds from aqueous solutions on hydrophobic zeolites
Abstract
The adsorption of binary alcohol–water mixtures on hydrophobic NaZSM-5 zeolites has been studied. It was shown that calculation of the adsorbed-phase composition using the saturation method or the volume-filling model is inadequate. Because the adsorption of water on NaZSM-5 zeolites is restricted, the adsorption of the mixture can be described by a new theoretical model. The adsorption volume was separated into two components: in the first, only the adsorption of the organic component is considered. The adsorption mechanism in the second volume corresponds to the classical ‘exchange reaction’ between water and the organic component.
