Ruthenium-catalysed oxidation of alcohols by acetone

Abstract

Secondary alcohols are readily converted to ketones under mild conditions by acetone in the presence of a catalytic amount of RuCl2(PPh3)3; in some cases the reaction is co-catalysed by acetophenone.
