Proton and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectra and INDO study of serotonine, tryptamine and L-tryptophan

Abstract

An n.m.r. investigation on serotonine, tryptamine and L-tryptophan in aqueous solution is reported. Homonuclear proton coupling constants are compared with those calculated at an INDO level and the results are discussed in terms of different conformations. A deuterium substitution study on serotonine provided information on the couplings of indole and aliphatic protons. Deuterium incorporation rates are shown to correlate with π INDO excess charges.
