An abnormal dinitration product from 4,6-dibromo-2,5-dimethylphenol; X-ray crystal structure of 2,4-dibromo-6-hydroxy-3,6-dimethylcyclohex-3-enone

Abstract

Dinitration of the dibromophenol (1) with fuming nitric acid gives the dibromodinitrohydroxy-cyclohexenone (2), the structure and stereochemistry of which were determined by X-ray crystal structure analysis.
