Reactions of alkali-metal azides with some organophosphorus(V) compounds

Abstract

The reactions of Li[N3] or Na[N3] with some organophosphorus(V) compounds containing chloro-groups, including PCl5(py)(py = pyridine) and catechyl derivatives of PCl5, have been investigated by 31P n.m.r. spectroscopy. Several new azido-species have been identified in solution. In the PCl5(py) system, where isomerism is possible, configurations have been assigned by the method of pairwise interactions.
