Cationic carbene complexes of palladium(II) and platinum(II)

Abstract

A series of cationic carbene complexes trans-[MX{C(NHR)NR′R″}(L)2] ClO4(M = Pd or Pt; X = H, Cl, or Br; R = Me, Ph, or p-NO2C6H4; R′= H or Me; R″= Me, Et, Ph, or p-CH3C6H4; L = PEt3, PBun3, PPh3, PhNC, or p-NO2C6H4NC) have been prepared and characterised. Certain platinum compounds may be converted, by treatment with KOH in alcohol, to the neutral amidino-complexes trans-[PtX{C(NHR)[double bond, length half m-dash]NR′}(PEt3)2](X = Cl or Br; R = Ph or p-NO2C6H4; R′= Ph, Me, or Et). The i.r. and n.m.r. spectra of these compounds are recorded and used to assign configurations.
