The compounds UX4,4RCN with X = Cl, Br, R = Me, Et, Prn, Pri, Bun, and Ph and UX4,3ButCN have been prepared. The visible spectra and magnetic properties of the 4 : 1 adducts are consistent with an eight-co-ordinate configuration at the uranium atom.
