Polyfluoroarenes. Part XVI. A convenient synthesis of pentafluorobenzonitrile

Abstract

Pentachlorobenzonitrile reacts with anhydrous potassium fluoride at 300–480° to give pentafluorobenzonitrile, 3-chlorotetrafluorobenzonitrile, and 3,5-dichlorotrifluorobenzonitrile. A 70% yield of pentafluorobenzonitrile is obtained at 350°.
