Synthetic analogues of polynucleotides. Part II. Studies on copolymers of 5′-O-acryloyluridine with acrylamide and their interaction with deoxyribonucleic acid
Abstract
The copolymerisation of 5′-O-acryloyluridine with acrylamide has been studied under various conditions of ionic strength, temperature, and type of initiator. A series of copolymers containing from 4·5 to 21·3 5′-O-acryloyluridine residues per 100 total residues has been obtained. These copolymers contained a fraction which hydridised with denatured deoxyribonucleic acid trapped in agar. The ability of these copolymers to hybridise in this way is dependent upon their molecular weights.
