Integrated diagnosis and treatment: metal organic frameworks as an innovative platform for neurodegenerative diseases

Abstract

Neurodegenerative diseases pose a serious threat to human health and have become an increasingly severe global public health issue, necessitating the urgent development of effective diagnostic methods and novel therapeutic strategies. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), as a class of crystalline porous materials, have garnered significant attention in recent years for their immense potential in neurodegenerative disease research. This paper systematically reviews research advances in the detection of key biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases using electrochemical and fluorescent sensors based on MOFs. It focuses on summarising the application value of MOFs as drug delivery systems, enzyme immobilisation platforms, and nanomedicines in therapeutic interventions and drug development. Furthermore, it explores the challenges and future prospects for MOFs in constructing integrated diagnostic and therapeutic platforms and advancing clinical translation.
