Photo-catalyzed bis-disulfidation of vinyl arenes with tetrasulfides in aqueous phase

Abstract

In this study, we developed a green and efficient strategy for photo-catalytic bis-disulfidation of vinyl arenes in the aqueous phase. This method featured mild reaction conditions, achieving the simultaneous and efficient construction of two C–S–S bonds in one step, with an atom utilization of 100%. Moreover, gram-scale synthesis demonstrated industrial potential. Further investigations revealed that the bis-disulfidation products, when employed as cathode materials for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, exhibited superior specific capacities (>200 mAh g−1) and stable cycling performance.
