Photocatalytic synthesis and closed-loop recycling of conjugated polyazines

Abstract

A photocatalytic synthesis and closed-loop recycling strategy for conjugated polyazines has been developed. Using CBZ6 as a dual-function photocatalyst, capable of both energy transfer and single-electron transfer, a series of linear conjugated polyazines were synthesized under mild, metal-free conditions. These π-conjugated polymers feature tunable backbones and favorable optoelectronic properties, making them promising candidates for photocatalytic applications. Importantly, the polymers are chemically recyclable: degradation of hydrazine-linked polyazines enabled recovery of the corresponding ketone monomers. The recycled monomers could be re-polymerized, completing a closed-loop cycle and offering a sustainable platform for advanced functional materials.
