Diastereoselective oxidative cyclization of 1,4-dienes for the synthesis of oxetanes

Abstract

In this paper, an osmium catalyzed oxidative cyclization of 1,4-dienes is reported. The reaction proceeds via exo,exo-type cyclization, with oxetanes obtained for the first time as oxidative cyclization products. A catalytic amount of potassium osmate dihydrate was used with sodium periodate as a terminal oxidant.
