CO2 Photoreduction by 4-Ferrocenyl Appended Bipyridine Coordinated Re(I) Complexes

Abstract

4-ferrocenyl-bipyridine ligands (2a-d) and their respective [Re(L)(CO)3Br] (L = 2a-d) complexes were synthesised and investigated for CO2 photoreduction. The single-crystal analysis revealed the formation of a by-product, 2d′, and its synthesis via self-aldol condensation explains the low yield observed for the ligands. The Re(I) complexes showed CO2 photoreduction with >90% selectivity for CO.
