Two approaches to phosphaniminocarbyne complexes

Abstract

The first phosphaniminocarbyne complexes [W([triple bond, length as m-dash]CN[double bond, length as m-dash]PPh3)(CO)2(Tp*)] (Tp* = tris(dimethylpyrazolyl)borate) and trans-[W([triple bond, length as m-dash]CN[double bond, length as m-dash]PPh3)Br(CO)4] arise from the reactions of the fluorocarbyne [W([triple bond, length as m-dash]CF)(CO)2(Tp*)] with Me3SiN[double bond, length as m-dash]PPh3 and of Na[W(CN)(CO)5] with Ph3PBr2. The C–N–P linkage in [W([triple bond, length as m-dash]CN[double bond, length as m-dash]PPh3)(CO)2(Tp*)] is bent in contrast to linear iminocarbynes LnM[triple bond, length as m-dash]CN[double bond, length as m-dash]CR2 but shows negligible nucleophilicity at nitrogen.
