Synthesis and Structural Characterization of a Nonaromatic Dithia-di-2,6-naphthioctaphyrin(1.0.0.1.1.0.0.1)

Abstract

A naphthalene unit was incorporated into an expanded porphyrin framework through a straightforward synthetic route to afford a dithia-di-2,6-naphthioctaphyrin(1.0.0.1.1.0.0.1). NMR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, and DFT calculations indicate that the macrocycle is nonaromatic. Single-crystal X-ray analysis further reveals that the macrocycle adopts a twisted conformation in the solid state.
