Sowing Ru atoms on defect CoAl LDHs for boosting alkaline water splitting

Abstract

CoAl LDH nanosheets with sufficient defects to anchor Ru atoms (Ru/D-CoAl LDHs) as bifunctional electrocatalysts are fabricated via hydrothermal synthesis combined with alkaline etching and static immersion. When assembled as both the anode and cathode in an alkaline electrolyzer, Ru/D-CoAl LDHs achieve 10 mA cm−2 at a cell voltage of 1.54 V, surpassing the commercial Pt/C‖RuO2.
