Herein, we report a Lewis acid–catalyzed heteroannulation strategy for the synthesis of indole-fused heteroacenes from electrophilic indoles and anilines. The method exhibits broad substrate scope and scalability. DFT studies reveal the crucial role of the Lewis acid and provide mechanistic insight, supporting the proposed pathway.
