A new, facile method towards the synthesis of asymmetric substituted secondary phosphines is developed. These are attainable from the reaction of 1,1'-disubstituted polyphosphorus complexes [Cp*Fe(ƞ 4 -P5R'R'')] (Cp* = ƞ 5 -C5Me5; R' ≠ R'' = alkyl, aryl) with LiAlH4.
