Reactions of Phosphazines with Primary and Secondary Boranes: Adducts, Rings and Reduction

Abstract

Reactions of (R3PN)2 with electrophilic boranes proceed via B-N adduct while additional borane affords BN2 salts. In marked contrast, the corresponding reactions with more electron rich boranes, Cy2BH or 9-BBN prompts phosphazine reduction, liberating phosphine and borane adducts of diboryl-hydrazines. The mechanistic details of these reactions are elucidated computationally.
