Tuning the oxygen vacancy formation energy of ceria by doping first row transition metals for aerobic oxidation desulfurization

Abstract

VOx/CeMOx catalysts with varying oxygen vacancy formation energy were prepared by doping ceria with 10 first row transition metals. VOx/CeCrOx catalyst with the lowest oxygen vacancy formation energy achieves best aerobic oxidation desulfurization performance. The balance of Ce-O and O-M bond strength is found to be the key point.
