Bifunctional two-dimensional BiPd electrocatalyst for efficient paired CO2 reduction and ethylene glycol oxidation

Abstract

A bifunctional two-dimensional BiPd electrocatalyst enables cathodic CO2 reduction and anodic ethylene glycol oxidation, affording 91.6% formate Faradaic efficiency with partial current density of 641.1 mA·cm−2 and 98.2% glycolic acid selectivity with productivity of 1.66 mmol cm−2 h−1. The paired system delivers stable co-electrosynthesis over 8 hours at reduced cell voltage.
