Efficient Molecular Solar Thermal Energy Storage in Self-Assembled Columnar Triethynylbenzene-Azobenzene Systems
Abstract
A self-assembled columnar hexagonal liquid crystal based on tetra-ortho-fluoro azobenzene-functionalized triethynylbenzene is reported for molecular solar thermal energy storage. Efficient visible-light-driven E→Z photoisomerization (~80%) at ambient temperature and significant heat release (up to 12.3 °C) upon back-isomerization demonstrate its potential as an effective MOST material.
