iClick reaction of Cu(II) azido complex having Schiff base ligand

Abstract

The [3+2] cycloaddition reaction of a square-planar Cu(II) azido complex having an N^N^O Schiff base ligand was investigated. Reactions with alkynes and coordinating nitriles afforded Cu(II) triazolato and tetrazolato complexes, respectively, at room temperature, displaying distinct coordination modes as confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Reaction with pyridine-2,6-dicarbonitrile leads to the formation of a new polymeric Cu(II) complex involving the hydrolysis of the cyano group, whereas less electron-deficient alkynes and non-coordinating nitriles remained unreactive under identical conditions.
