A bipyrrole scaffold as an emerging Frontier in robust design of high energy materials

Abstract

α,α′-Bipyrrole is employed for the first time towards the synthesis of polynitrated high-energy materials. An efficient and scalable 3-step route led to the fully nitrated hexanitro-N,N′-dimethylbipyrrole (HNDMBP). Its twisted and tightly packed framework combines density with resilience, delivering good energetic performance (8.02 km s−1, 28.2 GPa) alongside remarkable safety (IS: 40 J; FS: 240 N) and stability (∼300 °C). HNDMBP stands out as a powerful and safe platform for advanced energetic applications.
