Self-Assembly of a Tellurotungstate Skeleton Inlaid with Ce(III) for Efficient Photocatalytic Synthesis of Quinazolines

Abstract

A novel Ce(III)-containing tellurotungstate [(CH3)2NH2]7K5[Ce8(H2O)(W8O28)(W2O6)2(Te2W19O68)4]·73H2O (Ce8) was successfully synthesized. Four Dawson-type open [Te2W19O68]14- moieties are interconnected by a distinctive windmill-shaped {W8} unit, while the tungsten framework is doped by eight Ce3+ ions with two distinct chemical environments. Furthermore, Ce8 was employed as the photocatalyst to achieve the cyclization-oxidation reaction of 2-aminobenzylamine with aldehyde compounds under visible light irradiation. A series of quinazolines was efficiently synthesized with excellent yields under environmentally friendly conditions, which is expected to advance the development of green and sustainable organic synthesis.
