Metal-free regioselective B–O coupling in carboranes for constructing aggregation-induced emission luminogens

Abstract

We report a metal-free regioselective B–O coupling of nido-carboranes enabled by hypervalent iodine(III) under mild conditions. This method establishes a new synthetic platform for the rapid assembly of carborane-based aggregation-induced emission (AIE) luminogens.
