Curcumin-loaded hydrogels promote skin wound healing

Abstract

The skin, an important protective organ of the human body, can develop wounds due to trauma and diseases. If not treated promptly, these wounds can lead to serious health problems. Skin dressings are crucial for promoting wound healing. At present, among all kinds of skin wound dressings, hydrogels have the advantages of biocompatibility, easy replacement, and avoiding secondary skin trauma. At the same time, curcumin (CUR) has the advantages of being anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial. The advantages of CUR-loaded hydrogels can keep the wound moist, prolong the drug release time, reduce infection, promote tissue regeneration, and accelerate wound healing. Therefore, researchers are working on CUR-loading hydrogels for wound treatment. This review summarizes the application of different types of hydrogel and CUR hydrogels in the treatment of various skin wounds, and focuses on the therapeutic effect of CUR hydrogels on diabetic wounds, in order to provide important information for the development of CUR hydrogel dressings.
