Post-synthetic modification of MOF-808: innovative strategies, structural and performance regulation
Abstract
Since the seminal synthesis of MOF-808, its distinctive structural features, including an exceptionally stable framework, abundant accessible metal sites, and well-defined hierarchical porosity, have established it as a versatile platform for adsorption, catalysis, and separation processes. While some specialized reviews have delved deeply into specific application areas (e.g., gas adsorption, CO2 capture, and catalytic transformations), a systematic and comparative analysis covering the full spectrum of post-synthetic modification (PSM) strategies remains underexplored. This review categorizes PSM approaches into three dimensions: functional group grafting, metal ion doping, and physicochemical composite formation. It aims to systematically summarize how these modification strategies regulate the material's structural properties and functional performances. Furthermore, this work highlights the breakthrough applications of modified MOF-808 materials in gas separation, environmental remediation, energy storage, and catalytic reactions, while providing critical perspectives on future research directions in this field.
