Highly nuclear Ag-substituted tetrameric sandwich-type polyoxometalate for excellent catalytic performance on C−C bond formation.

Abstract

Given the fundamental role played by the formation of C−C bonds in the field of synthetic chemistry, the development of effective acid-base catalysts represents a significant and challenging work. In this work, a high nuclear Ag-substituted tetrameric sandwich-type polyoxometalate has been synthesis in one-pot strategy from simple materials. The {Ag16} cluster of the sandwich is protected and stabilized by four trivacanct POM ligands, but four additional silver atom active sites are exposed. Furthermore, the cluster demonstrates considerable catalytic activity for the formation of C−C bonds in the Knoevenagel condensation and the cyanosilylation reaction, attributable to its substantial acid-base active sites.
