Annulation of aliphatic nitro compounds with β-styryl sulfonium salts toward the synthesis of isoxazoline N-oxides

Abstract

Vinyl sulfonium salts proved to be convenient building blocks in modern organic synthesis due to the wide variety of their reactivities. In this study, we expand the spectrum of possible transformations using the annulation reaction with aliphatic nitro compounds as bis-nucleophilic species. The resulting isoxazoline N-oxides, which exhibit a previously difficult-to-obtain substitution pattern, turned out to be convenient precursors to valuable hydroxy ketones and polysubstituted isoxazolines.
