A rapid method for C2-arylation of hydroxypyranone systems via a reductive iodonio-Claisen rearrangement (RICR) of λ3-iodanes is reported. By integrating the rearrangement products with a tandem Claisen reaction, a series of otherwise inaccessible biaryl phenols were efficiently synthesized.
