Thermal stability analysis of organic laser dye 4,4'-Bis[(N-carbazole)styryl]-biphenyl
Abstract
The organic dye 4,4'-bis[(N-carbazole)styryl]biphenyl (BSBCz) stands out as a superior gain medium for organic blue laser applications. Thin films of BSBCz produced via thermal evaporation are traditionally regarded as pure films. However, the material's insufficient thermal stability leads to complex compositions and unstable quality in thermally evaporated films. In this study, we identified the structures of thermal degradation by-products of BSBCz, investigated the thermal degradation process and revealed the main components in thermally evaporated films, thereby exposing the underlying reasons for their quality instability. Consequently, this study has enhanced comprehension of the properties of BSBCz and offers valuable insights for the advancement of their applications.
