Alternating Current Enabled of para-Selective C(sp²)–H/N–H Cross-Coupling of Aniline

Abstract

C-H/N-H coupling using electrochemistry and non-transition metal catalysis is a highly efficient method for atom and step economy. However, its synthesis remains a significant challenge because of issues related to the region selectivity and excessive oxidation of the resulting product. This study presents a novel approach to achieving para-selective amination of arylamines by employing alternating current (AC) polarity reversal and periodic electrode modulation to control excessive oxidation. The reaction was conducted in a straightforward one-piece reactor without the need for chemical oxidants and demonstrated broad substrate applicability.
