Comment on “Experimental support for the model of Bray–Liebhafsky oscillatory reaction based on the heterogeneous effects” by I. N. Bubanja, A. F. Taylor and D. Stanisavljev, Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2024, 26, 24975
Abstract
Bubanja et al. proposed that the Bray–Liebhafsky oscillations could be explained by the formation and collapse of oxygen bubbles produced by the decomposition of H2O2. However, while bubbles may have an effect, their formation explains neither the oscillations nor many other experimental results. The model we proposed previously, based on kinetics studies of reactions of iodine compounds with each other and with H2O2, explained the oscillations and related reactions, at least semi-quantitatively. It is extended with new radical reactions explaining the effects of oxygen. In accordance with the ideas of Bray, Liebhafsky, and many other researchers, the oscillations can occur in homogeneous solutions.
