Divergent synthesis of polycyclic (aza)fluorenes via condition-controlled tandem reaction of ortho-hydroxyphenyl-substituted indene-dienes

Abstract

We describe the condition-controlled tandem reaction of o-hydroxyphenyl-substituted indene-dienes forming multiple bonds and rings in a single operation to divergently produce three kinds of polycyclic (aza)fluorenes. Some molecules exhibited AIE properties. Moreover, a control experiment and DFT calculations were conducted to elucidate the reaction pathway.
