Combining hollow spherical structure and heterojunction promotes sustainable ZnO/CdS photocatalytic hydrogen production

Abstract

Here, a hollow spherical ZnO/CdS (HP) is prepared by combining template-directed method and chemical deposition technique. The synergy of hollow spherical structure and heterojunction creates more active sites, promotes light utilization, and enhances charge separation. Therefore, ZnO/CdS (HP) achieves a hydrogen production rate of 75.09 mmol h−1 g−1, which is 34.6-, 17- and 3.2-fold than that of CdS (Np), ZnO (HP), and ZnO/CdS (Ns), respectively.
