Synthesis and Photophysical Properties of π-Extended Perylene Diimide-embedded Cycloparaphenylenes

Abstract

We report two cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs) [9]CPPDI1 and [9]CPPDI2 embedded with perylene diimide (PDI) and its π-extended derivative respectively. The UV/vis absorption and fluorescence spectra as well as DFT calculations clarified the unique photophysical properties of the two molecules. Moreover, efficient resolution with chiral enantiomers (+)/(–)-[9]CPPDI2 was successfully isolated by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy was performed to prove their chirality.
