Nickel-catalyzed Barbier-type reaction of carbonyl derivatives with unactivated alkyl halides†
Abstract
We herein report a Ni-catalyzed Barbier-type reaction that enables the direct coupling of unactivated alkyl halides (primary, secondary, and tertiary) with a diverse range of carbonyl derivatives to synthesize tertiary alcohols and amines under mild conditions. Mechanistic studies, including radical trapping experiments and characterization of ring-opening adducts, support a radical-mediated pathway.
