Oxidative decarbonylation coupling of anilines with isocyanates for the synthesis of unsymmetric azobenzenes†
Abstract
This paper presents an efficient strategy for the construction of unsymmetric azobenzene compounds under metal-free and non-acidic conditions. This process employs high-valent iodine to promote the oxidative decarbonylation coupling of anilines and isocyanates. Various anilines and isocyanates are well tolerated, affording the target products in acceptable yields. Additional advantages of this method include the mild reaction conditions, ease of operation, and the use of cost-effective raw materials.
