Crystalline products of bromoantimonate(iii) oxidation by Br2 in the presence of different cations: diversity of structural types and patterns of halogen bond systems

Abstract

Reactions of bromoantimonate(III) containing solutions with Br2 in the presence of different organic cations result in structurally highly diverse crystalline products readily forming halogen bonds (XBs). Herein, we add six new compounds to this palette using 1,n-bis(3-methylpyridinium)- or (4-methylpyridinium)alkane dications; the complexes were characterized using X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Further, we discuss all previous results in this field, including quantum chemistry investigation of the features of XBs in such compounds.
